Six Months - Clos Maggiore

To mark six months of marriage, which as they say the first year is the hardest we felt we should celebrate, the hubby took me for a very special meal at Clos Maggiore.

This restaurant is absolutely beautiful. We were seated in a small cocktail lounge, which reminded me of a fancy wooden train carriage for a pre-dinner drink before walking through the typically French decor and entering the conservatory that had been pre-requested. The ceiling is covered in flowers and fairy lights and there is a large fireplace for the winter. It is breathtakingly romantic and looks exactly like the website pictures. Make sure you reserve; the restaurant is booked months in advance so get yourself on the waiting list to avoid disappointment. The toilets are equally luxurious and are coated in an exquisite wallpaper, which I may just have to copy in a room at home!

The staff here are incredible, they are courteous and friendly, well trained and very helpful with explaining menu choices. The Sommelier will also be happy to spend plenty of time looking at different wine options to best accompany your meal selections. On arrival you will be presented with some mini cheese scones to devour whilst picking from the mouthwatering food on offer.

We went with the A La Carte, although I think next time I may choose a tasting menu. I started with the crab complemented perfectly with a smoked anchovy mayonnaise and the hubby decided to try the lobster, scallop and king prawn tortellini served with a delicious bisque. This was topped off with some lovely crusty french bread and salted butter. Both starters were delicious and we kept trying each others. The tortellini was creamy and the filling was generous. The crab was smooth and the cauliflower worked very well with the dish. Both starters were well presented and definitely fine dining quality.

For our main course we chose to share, it's always nice to share with a loved one, especially in such a romantic setting. So we chose the oven roasted and herb smoked wagyu beef for two. The waiters presented the roasting beef to show us before it was cut up and served, which was a novel touch. The beef was amazing and the best I have ever tasted. It absolutely melted in your mouth, was full of flavor and had been cooked to perfection. The onion puree, broccoli, duck fat chips and mushrooms were a great complement to the meat along with the rich gravy and the Bearnaise sauce. I really cannot praise this dish enough, you have to try it and we are already planning our next reservation to have some more, although I will feel bad not trying the other delicious looking delights on the menu.

We were too full for dessert unfortunately but the boy had a liquor and the restaurant presented us with some delicious petit fours including a chocolate and peanut concoction and a little fragrant jelly. With two glasses of wine and service the bill was just under £150 but was genuinely one of the best meals and restaurant experiences we have ever had so we felt was good value for money. They will also not rush you here and each table for two is given a 2.5 hour time slot, which is very generous for a busy London restaurant.

Bring that special someone here for an absolutely out of this world WOW meal, you will be incredibly impressed by everything on offer and will be desperate to get back on that several month waiting list for another go. I don't think I will ever get enough of Clos Maggiore and will certainly tell anyone who will listen to check out this restaurant.
