Sunday Roast - The Bull & Last

The girls and I went for a Sunday roast at the fantastic Bull & Last after a lovely long walk around the picturesque Hampstead Heath.

As with many trendy places you must book well in advance to secure a table. The restaurant was packed and you will leave disappointed without a reservation. We were a little early so perched on one of their few little outside benches for some pre-food Prosecco and a catch up in the sunshine. The restaurant is split over two floors and has very dark wooden decor with lots of bulls heads dotted around. We were seated upstairs, which I actually think is better as it's slightly less chaotic compared to the bar area and downstairs dining.

Being girls who had already started on the Prosecco and had now ordered a couple of bottles of Red we decided to grab a bread basket and some olives for the table along with the buttermilk chicken. The bread is delicious, the basket is filled with a variety of different types, which I think are homemade in the pub. The chicken was also delicious and was great to snack on something hot whilst deciding on our main courses.

We all decided to skip starters and dive straight into the main event. It was roasts all round here and nobody was left disappointed. The food is good, the portions are generous and all the trimmings you could wish for are provided. This really is a good Sunday roast, I know most don't come close to your Mum's alternative but this will give her a run for her money! It's expensive and I do appreciate there are other good pub roasts for a cheaper price but the quality here is clearly very good and all seven of us wiped our plates completely clean.

By this point we were very full on bubbles and Red as well as all of the food delights that had been presented to us. However, being women we couldn't resist a taste of something sweet. A variety of desserts were ordered between the table including the delicious salt caramel truffles. I personally went for the chocolate brownie and was not disappointed with my choice. The raspberry sorbet complemented the brownie perfectly and I would definitely recommend this option.

All in all this was a great little place for a Sunday lunch. It isn't a cheap option but is a good one and the setting is very nice and ideally suited to a stroll around the Heath. The staff were great and even let us stay on for quite a bit longer than our table time slot. We did eventually have to move due to dinner service beginning but they did accommodate us elsewhere in the pub whilst we finished our wine! All of us left full and merry and very, very satisfied.

If you are in the area book a table and try this Sunday fare for yourself.
